Head Coach
Francesco Romano: [email protected]
Coach Francesco is a swim coach with 30 years of experience, specializing in mentoring both children and master swimmers. His personal achievements in the sport are highlighted by his success in open-water swimming, excelling in marathon and long-distance events, while butterfly was his specialty in indoor competitions.
Outside the pool, Francesco is a passionate sports enthusiast, embracing a wide range of athletic pursuits. From climbing to the adrenaline rush of skydiving and the depths of scuba diving, his love for adventure extends well beyond swimming.
Francesco’s swimming journey began at the age of 7. He continued his swimming passion while serving in the Army, where he also took on the role of coaching his unit alongside his duties as a Commander. He attributes many of his personal and professional accomplishments to the discipline, resilience, and life lessons gained from swimming, and he is eager to bring these qualities to the FINS Team.
Assistant Coach
William Schauss
I’m William Schauss. I’m 19 and attending Saint Vincent College, where I’m getting a dual major in Theology and Business. I also swim for the college team and hold 1 individual record along with a relay record, after winning twice at conference and being named the newcomer of the year. I’ve been on the Fins almost 15 years and my favorite stroke is butterfly. My favorite food is steak, and I like to either draw or play baseball in my free time. I look forward to meeting y’all and helping lead Fins into another successful year!

Junior Coaches
Thank you for your willingness to serve as a Junior Coach. For the Clear Lake Forest Fins to be most successful in and out of the pool, we need the help of some of our older teammates to assist younger swimmers in practices and meets. We need your help to teach the younger swimmers correct swimming technique and to help practices and meets run smoothly. Most importantly, you are the examples that the younger swimmers look up to; you are their heroes.
Qualifications for junior coaches:
- Be at least 12 years old
- Complete the Coach Interest Form
Junior Coach Responsibilities
Your most important responsibility is to set the example of the perfect Fins swimmer, this means:
- Be on time for practice
- Work hard during practice
- Listen to and respect your coaches at all times
- Be a friend to all teammates
As a Junior Coach, you will also have responsibilities at other practices and meets. These include:
- Attend all practices that you are assigned to help. Let the assistant coach over the age group that you help with know beforehand if you are unable to be at a practice.
- Assist at practice under the direction of head coach and assistant coaches.
- Be in the water assisting swimmers when directed to by the head, assistant, or age group coach.
- Know all of the names of the swimmers in the age group you are assigned. Be their friend and greet each of them by name at each practice.
- Make sure swimmers in the age group you are assigned do not miss an event. Especially make sure relays are ready for their races.
- Cheer on all swimmers in the age group you are assigned to during their races. You will be on deck, but not in the coaches’ area.
- Make sure all swimmers talk to their age group coach after their races.
